“Team Parallel” at Be the Match 5K Walk+Run

On May 17, 2014, seven runners from Parallel Technologies helped raise money for “Be the Match” by participating in a 5K walk+run around Lake Harriet. Be the Match is a national marrow donor program and raises critical funds to help patients with blood cancers, like leukemia and lymphoma. A few days before the race, members of the Parallel family also donated part of their work day by putting together donor kits for this life saving cause.

The process for becoming a marrow donor starts with joining Be the Match Registry and providing a sample of your DNA with a cheek swab. Mayor Hodges helped kick off the walk+run event by swabbing her cheek and joining the registry. All seven “Team Parallel” members also provided a cheek swab after completing their run.
There was a “Messages of Hope” banner at the event where people wrote words of inspiration for patients and all those who help care for them. Photos and mementos were also adhered to the banner which will now tour marrow transplant centers and registry drive events.

100% of the $320 raised by Team Parallel will be used to add new potential donors to the registry, help patients struggling with uninsured costs, and fund research advances.

We are very proud! Thank you Team Parallel!
