Parallel Technologies’ New Hire – Nate Ruhland

Parallel is very pleased to have Nate Ruhland join our Physical Security team as a Presales Design Engineer. He works very closely with Parallel’s Physical Security Director, Norm Spear. “I barrage him with about fifteen to twenty questions a day,” says Nate. “He has been very patient with me and I’ve already learned a lot from him.” In a short time, Nate has contributed greatly to the company and has even shared some of his expert knowledge in two new “Parallel Minute” videos.

When asked, Nate says the best part of his job here at Parallel is troubleshooting a problem: “Whether it’s helping a customer figure out a better solution or trying to fix an existing problem, I like having the freedom to work with others and collaborate on finding something that works.”

In 2007, Nate earned a B.A. in Psychology and German at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and then a M.A. in German Studies two years later. A rather unique and interesting fact is that Nate is bilingual; being fluent in both English and German. Nate holds certifications for Milestone Systems (all products), Axis Cameras and Agent Vi, to name a few more of his many skills.

For about three years, Nate was a Technical Trainer for Connex International in Burnsville, Minnesota. He trained and certified over 500 security professionals on various software products; successfully conducting software training independently in 17 different countries and five different continents. During this time, Nate also supported customers by troubleshooting: software, network, camera, and other hardware issues.

Then, at the start of 2012, Nate’s job focus became Team Lead Applications at Connex International. He was a subject-matter expert for Agent Vi and Briefcam and worked together with Connex International and Milestone Systems, also in Burnsville, to improve curriculum and technical training practices. For a little over a year, Nate supported a team and coached individuals on improving knowledge, training skills, and troubleshooting complex software integrations.

Nate changed roles one more time at Connex International in March, 2013, and became a Learning Services Manager. He created E-Learning courses for various vendors related to physical security. For these courses, he developed content including: training materials, tests, hands-on exercises, and support resources to improve internal knowledge transfer among colleagues. Also during this last year at Connex International, Nate collaborated with customers to create training content aligned with stated goals and expectations to better educate their partners.

Nate worked for Milestone Systems as a Technical Development Specialist and Systems Analyst before joining Parallel. There he designed and built new servers for use in technical certification courses. Nate was also responsible for testing and certifying integrations between XProtect VMS products and various software and hardware partners.

Nate grew up in Mounds View, MN, where he played a lot of soccer throughout those years. Soccer is a sport he continues to enjoy today, along with most anything to do with the outdoors. In particular, he is partial to hunting, fishing, and snowboarding. Woodworking is another activity Nate finds gratifying during his spare time.

Nate has been married for three and a half years. He and his wife share their home with a “big, brown lab.”

Welcome to Parallel Technologies, Nate; your contributions will surely be an important part of Parallel’s continued success!
