MINNEAPOLIS – March 31, 2017 – Parallel Technologies, an industry-leading reliable data center and intelligent building solutions company, announced today the completion of the Phase II expansion of the Cologix MIN3 Data Center in the region’s primary carrier hotel at 511 11th Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis. The second phase of the project added raised floor to support up to 1.5MW of additional critical power.

Parallel Technologies was selected as the design build partner for both phases of the MIN3 facility and provided the mechanical, electrical, network, cabling, physical security and monitoring aspects of the projects.  Within a year of its initial completion in March 2015, the first phase of the 28,000-square-foot data center quickly reached near capacity prompting the rapid construction of pre-planned Phase II.

“The increased demand for third party colocation services in the Twin-Cities market reflects enterprises shifting attitudes away from in-house data centers,” said Tim Kittila, director of Data Center Strategy at Parallel Technologies. “Following national trends, Parallel is in conversations with numerous local enterprises, who are increasingly turning to colocation providers rather than rebuilding internal data centers as they reach end of life. Parallel is happy to have partnered with Cologix to add new capacity to keep up with their customer demand, proving how appealing their highly-reliable infrastructure, neutral network and cloud ecosystems and location are to enterprises.”

Cologix’s enterprise-grade MIN3 data center is unique in the marketplace, supported by redundant power supply (2N UPS) and generator infrastructure as well as N+1 cooling infrastructure.  Parallel and Cologix made a specific point to add flexibility into the design to accommodate higher power density applications. The site is approved for the State of Minnesota’s sales tax incentive program, whereby customers deploying qualifying new equipment or software in the data center are eligible for a sales tax rebate on those purchases. The site operates under the same controls that have already been certified under SOC2 Type2 (SSAE16) standards.

“Having been involved in all phases of the design and facilities construction, I can attest to the impressive quality of the integrated design and construction of the Cologix MIN3 data center,” said Kittila. “The attention to detail in the design and quality of workmanship are evident for all who tour the site.”
