Building Automation Estimator 1

A Building Automation Estimator 1 is tasked with assisting in the creation of cost estimates and quotes for new opportunities.  They work closely with the account manager and the estimation team to gather information on opportunities and developing a clear scope of work for them.  Costs are then developed from the scope of work and presented to the client.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a clear scope of work for opportunities brought in by account managers.  This includes communicating with new and existing clients, researching solutions, reading plans and specifications, and interpreting client intent.
  • Travel to client sites as needed to verify existing conditions and gather information for cost estimations.  This includes taking pictures of existing equipment, sketching out system layouts, and identifying installation risks.
  • Use estimation software to develop costs associated with the implementation of the developed scope of work.  Ensure that all predictable costs are accounted for and factored into the estimate.
  • Produce quotes based on developed scope of work and costs estimate with the help of the account manager.
  • Communicate with team on all known project details including scope, budget, and timeline in a manner that a project manager can take that information and layout a project plan based on it.
  • Coordinate closely with account managers on new opportunities.
  • Manage estimating cost database so that new products and prices are correctly displayed and utilized within the database.
  • Develop standards related to estimating techniques and best practices.  This includes building out standard equipment packages and updated existing ones with new materials when required to keep the system up to date.
  • Create and use information feedback to improve future estimates based upon data collected from finished products.
  • Manage time and priority on multiple opportunities at the same time.
  • Work under tight deadlines to complete quotes on short notice and on time.
  • Track and monitor online plan rooms for new plan and spec opportunities.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications related to mechanical and control systems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education:

  • Windows or apple operating system
  • Microsoft Office suite with a focus on Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with building automation systems.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of automation systems, HVAC, electrical concepts, and building operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer relations required.
  • Individual must possess a valid Driver’s license in good standing and must be able to pass a background check.
